Scannell, Shepherd Lead Davidson Against UNCW

Thacher Scannell and Sarah Helen Shepherd each won multiple events to highlight Davidson's performance against UNC Wilmington Friday afternoon in Charles A. Cannon Pool.
The duo combined for five of the nine wins the Wildcats notched in 28 swimming events.
Shepherd, a sophomore from Chapel Hill, earned victories in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.14) and the 200 individual medley (2:06.88) and led a 1-2-3 Wildcats finish in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 2:07.80 as teammates Hope Carpenter and Anabelle Durham followed for a 16-point effort.
Scannell continued his standout freshman campaign with wins in the 500 and 1,000 freestyles, posting times of 4:40.54 and 9:38.29, respectively. He trimmed more than three seconds off his previous best in the 1,000 to move into eighth place (from ninth) on the program's all-time performers list.
Kevin Andrews swam the 100 back in 51.89 to account for the Wildcat men's other victory.
Chelsea Savage and Hope Carpenter turned in individual victories for the women. Savage won the 1,000 free in 10.53.33, while Carpenter won the 100 back (58.34).
Carpenter joined Virginia Gilliland, Olivia Stanley and Maggie Farrell on the Wildcats' victorious 400 medley relay team (3:56.37).
UNCW held a 161-126 advantage in the women's team standings and won 194-94 in the men.
