1/10/2019 3:02:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
The Davidson swimming teams return to action Friday, when they host UNC Wilmington at 1 p.m. in Charles A. Cannon Pool.
The Wildcats last competed at the Bucknell Invitational Nov. 16-18 in Lewisburg, Pa. and just returned from a 10-day training trip to Florida.
Newcomers stepping up
For the Davidson men's team, three newcomers joined the all-time top-10 performers list during the first half of the season.
Freshman Thacher Scannell entered the Winter Junior Nationals as an individual in early December and set the program record in the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:36.73). The three-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week from Connecticut also ranks sixth in the 500 free (4:31.86) and ninth in the 200 free (1:39.63) and 1,000 free (9:41.58).
Scannell is the second active Wildcat swimmer to hold a school record, joining sophomore Sarah Helen Shepherd (pictured), who set the 400 individual medley record at last year's A-10 championships (4:25.17).
Junior transfer Walter Dauksher, who helped Division III Denison win a national championship in 2016, has also carved his spot on the all-time Wildcats' list. He posted his best times at Bucknell and now ranks fifth in the 200 free (1:39.03) and eighth in the 100 free (45.44).
Freshman Owen Corkery joined the all-time list in the 200 backstroke, with his top swim to date also coming at Bucknell. The Tega Cay, S.C., resident ranks eighth (1:50.21).
Freshmen women making an early impact
Davidson freshmen Hope Carpenter, Hannah Gould and Siena Senn have already etched their names on the program's all-time performers list.
Carpenter, who swam at Ragsdale High near Greensboro, ranks sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.07, which she posted at Bucknell.
Senn, of Park City, Utah, is on the 500 freestyle list at No. 10 with a time of 5:03.32, which she earned at Bucknell.
Gould, of Rockville, Md., entered the top 10 in the 200 breaststroke with the 2:24.20 time she swam at home against Old Dominion Nov. 3.
