Women's XC Posts Strong Showing in Louisville

LOUISVILLE – The Davidson women's cross country placed seventh at the Louisville Cross Country Classic Saturday at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.
The Wildcats tallied 279 points to place seventh overall. Michigan (46 points) paced the field, while Eastern Kentucky (120) and Southern Methodist (160) rounded out the top three squads.
Wildcat senior Caroline Yarbrough paced the team with a 23rd place finish, stopping the clock over 5k in 17:30.4. Junior Maddie Hunter slotted in 10 spots behind Yarbrough, stopping the clock in 17:41.8.
Davidson senior Sophia Mills burst through for Jen Straub's squad, coming home in 18:19.2, while junior Susannah Cate turned in a time of 18:26.7. Rounding out the Wildcat scoring was freshman Rachel Shapiro in 18:53.3.
"I couldn't be more pleased with how the women ran today against a stellar field," said director of cross country/track and field Jen Straub. "Caroline [Yarbrough] and Maddie [Hunter] improved from last year, while Sophia [Mills] provided a huge spark for us!"
The 'Cats return to the trails Friday, Oct. 12 at the Royals Cross Country Challenge hosted by Queens University.
