Wildcats Fall Sunday 3-0 to La Salle in A-10 Play

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Two days after sweeping their way to an Athletic 10 opening win, Davidson was unable to find its rhythm Sunday in falling 3-0 to La Salle in volleyball play inside John M. Belk Arena.
The Explorers (8-7, 1-1 A-10) took sets of 25-18, 27-25 and 25-18 to send the Wildcats to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in A-10 action.
Mason Rooney and Hattie Rodriguez each reached the double-digit mark in kills with 13 and 12, respectively. Both hit solid for the match as well, Rooney at .400 and Rodriguez at .385, but the 'Cats hit only .195 as a team.
Josie Treadwell earned a match-high tying 23 digs, while Sydney Champaigne (16) and Rooney (13) combined for 29 of the Wildcats' 34 assists.
For La Salle, Catherine Edgington had 11 kills on 20 swings for a .550 hitting percentage. Three other Explorers tallied nine kills each. Kathryn Wood finished with a match-high 32 assists and Jensen Sharrits picked up 23 digs.
The first set saw La Salle jump out to a 10-4 lead and Davidson had to play catch up the rest of the way. It go with in two twice (12-10, 15-13) in the middle stages, but the Explorers finished the set hitting .353 and took a 25-18 decision.
Down 10-7 in the second set, the 'Cats rattled off a 7-2 run capped off by a Rooney kill for a 14-12 lead midway through. It would go back and forth from there, with Davidson having a chance to close it out up 24-23 before La Salle tied it up after a timeout. It was tied one more time at 25-all before a hitting error and service ace gave the Explorers the second set.
Davidson kept things close in the final set at 10-all after a Rooney kill, but La Salle countered with an 10-3 run to make it 20-13 and never looked back to score the 25-18 win.
Davidson travels next weekend to Dayton and Saint Louis to continue it's a-10 schedule, Sept. 28-30.
