FAIRFAX, Va. –
Davidson's Sean Caveney won the Atlantic 10 Championship in the 400-meter hurdles as men's track and field wrapped up their outdoor season Sunday at George Mason Stadium.

Caveney, who cruised to a heat victory in Saturday's prelims, made the finals look easy. The Andover, Mass., native cleared the 10 hurdles spread over 400 meters in 52.52 seconds to win his first A-10 title.

The 'Cats scored 60 points to place fifth overall, the most points for the team since joining the Atlantic 10. Rhode Island won the team crown, registering 216.5 points, while George Mason (172.5), VCU (93) and Duquesne (70) rounded out the top four squads.

"We had a fantastic meet — this was a great step forward for our program and we are very proud of how our guys competed. The guys rose to the occasion and brought their best performances for the meet that counted most," said head coach Renny Waldron.

Davidson junior Jacob Hostetler had an impressive day on the track, placing second in both the 400m and 200m. Hostetler set a new program mark in the 400 meters, racing around the track in 47.20 seconds to break David Ritchie's 47.84-second record set in 2007. The Seattle, Wash., native returned to take silver in the 200-meter dash, stopping the clock in 21.46 seconds.

Junior Dylan Carmack placed third in his second event of the weekend, taking bronze in the 5,000-meter run. Carmack chased down Massachusetts' Michael Famiglietti on the last lap and snuck past him at the line to finish third with a time of 14:44.26. Carmack was third in Saturday night's 10k.

Stockton McGuire placed second in the decathlon, earning top points in the 1500m and 400m run, while tying the second best score in the javelin. McGuire scored 6,212 points as Davidson's first ever decathlete.

Freshman Miles Hollimon capped a strong rookie season with a sixth place result in the 100m dash, leaning across the line in 10.97 seconds.

The 4x100m relay team of Hollimon, Hostetler, William Wicks and George Williams set a new school record, racing the baton around the track in 41.82 seconds to place fifth on the day.

The 4x400m relay squad of Caveney, Hollimon, Hostetler and Williams placed seventh with a time of 3:18.64.

"With all of our scorers returning to Davidson and the addition of our very strong recruiting class, the future looks very bright for our program!"

Caveney will likely continue his season in the 400 meter hurdles at the NCAA East Preliminary Championship starting Thursday, May 24 in Tampa, Fla.
