SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the weekend with an 18-31 overall record, and seven wins in league play. The squad is led by sophomore Takahiro Yamada's .299 clip, but gets most of its power from classmate Brandon Smith who has eight homers and a team-best .491 slugging. The Flyers post a 6.59 ERA collectively and are coming off a 4-2 victory Tuesday over Toledo.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
The Wildcats are 4-2 all-time against the Flyers, suffering in back-to-back losses back in 2016 in their last meeting. The 'Cats did pick up a Friday victory in the series, a 5-3 decision where then-sophomore Alec Acosta drove in two with a single.
SENIOR SHOUT OUTS
Prior to Friday's contest, Davidson will honor its six seniors- pitchers Josh Smutzer, Evan Roberts, and Connor Gordon, outfielders Andrew Born and Cam Johnson, and infielder Alec Acosta- as well as junior Andrew Ashur, who will be graduating a year ahead of schedule. This year's crew will exit Davidson as the winningest class in school history, currently with 123 wins.
THE BULLPEN BEER GARDEN
Saturday will mark the final Bullpen Beer Gardens this season. Every Saturday during home A-10 play, fans can take part in the event, which will begin 30 minutes prior to first pitch. Anyone 21 and over can enter the garden set up in the outdoor cage and enjoy adult beverages from NoDA Brewing in Charlotte. Cash or card will be accepted.
RECORDS ON THE HORIZON
Senior Alec Acosta is currently tied for the program record in sacrifice flies at 16, and is just two games away from playing the most in school history (204). His final game at Wilson Field, Saturday, will give him the all-time record at 205.
Junior Eric Jones is five RBI away from the single-season record. Currently with 57, the 61 mark was originally set 33 years ago in 1985, and then tied in 1993. Jones has already tied the single-season record for grand slams in a season (2).
LAST TIME OUT
Davidson enjoyed its bye week after two midweek victories last week. Wednesday's 8-4 win over Presbyterian, was number 600 for Head Coach Dick Cooke.
