CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a battle of cross-county rivals, Davidson saw its season-high 10-match winning streak come to an end with a 4-2 setback at Charlotte Friday afternoon in women's tennis.
Davidson fell to 13-3 on the season. The double-digit win streak marked the second time in the past three years it had 10 or more wins in a row during the season. The 49ers moved to 8-11 and won their third in a row in the series.
"This was not our best showing, but I believe we learned a lot from this match and can take those experiences into the matches we have ahead of us," said head coach Susanne Depka.
The match was determined through singles play only and it was a battle down to the end as the Wildcats played four three-set matches. The lone wins came from Gabrielle Centenari and Ava Todd at No. 4 and 6 positions, respectively.
Centenari kept her singles win streak intact at a personal-best 10 in a row when she pulled out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 decision. She ran her record to 12-2 overall, second-best on the season, while moving to 9-1 at No. 4.
Collecting her 59th career win was Todd, who scored a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to run her record to 11-2 on the year.
Freshman Lindsay Song dropped her first collegiate match after winning her first 11 straight, falling in a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 three-setter at No. 5.
Davidson comes back home for a mid-week match, April 11, against UNCG at 3 p.m.
