
2nd Half Surge Lead Wildcats to 15-10 Road Win

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Davidson used a 6-0 run in the early stages of the second half to break up a tightly played game and went on to score a 15-10 road victory at George Washington in both teams final regular season Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse game at GW Lacrosse Field.
With the win, the Wildcats (10-7, 5-4 A-10) who have won three in a row advance to the A-10 Championship next week and earned the fifth seed. They will draw No. 4 seed VCU Thursday, May 3, at 11:30 a.m. in Richmond, Va., as the Richmond Spiders will host.
The victory also gave the 'Cats double-digit victories for the first time since the 2014 season when they went 12-7 overall.
Down 7-6 after GW (9-8, 2-7 A-10) scored the first two goals of the new half, Davidson got goals from six different Wildcats starting at the 25-minute mark and ending at 18:52 to grab a 12-7 lead. It would maintain a three-goal lead the rest of the way for the win.
Jordan Wood broke out of a mini-scoring slump by recording a career-best seven points on five goals and a personal-best two assists. The sophomore, who had scored just five goals total in the past five games combined, netted four goals in the first half, and tallied a goal and two assists during the 'Cats' game-changing run.
Freshman Sam Rippley had a season-high four points (3 goals, 1 assist- first of her career), Olivia Carey picked up three points on two goals and an assist, and Shannon Blee had two goals. Sarah Kopp had a goal and an assist.
For the Colonials, Camaryn Kerns had five points on four goals and an assist, while Jocelyn Donohue (3) and Katie Quinn (2) each recorded multi-goal games.
The game featured a combined nine ties and lead changes, five of them coming in the first half. Davidson had a 4-2 lead before GW tied it at 10:01 after two of its own goals. The Wildcats twice regained the lead, closing the half up 6-5 on Wood's fourth goal on a free-position shot and just six seconds left.
Kerns gave George Washington the lead back on two straight goals by her to open the second half, but Davidson answered with its game-changing run capped off by Wood's team-leading 40th goal.
The lead was cut to 12-9 at 13:04 on the clock before the Wildcats got goals from Rippley, Christine Molinari and Carey to secure the win.
Much like the game, the final box score statistics were close as well, with Davidson holding a 30-29 advantage in shots and draw controls at 16-11. GW scooped up 23 groundballs to the 'Cats' 19.
Rose Woolson finished with 12 saves between the pipes on the afternoon to go with three groundballs.
Picking up a career-high eight draw controls was Shayne Antolini, while Kopp had two groundballs, two draw controls and a caused turnover. In addition to her strong offensive output, Wood scooped up two groundballs and had a personal-best three draw controls.
