ORLANDO, Fla.  —
For the third consecutive season, Davidson saw the Dayton Flyers end their run at the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship after suffering a hard-fought 4-3 defeat Saturday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
 
Third-seeded Dayton advances to face No. 1 seed VCU Sunday in the championship match.
 
Despite the tough setback, the Wildcats concluded another successful campaign with a 16-7 overall record. The win total matches last year's and it is the first time since 1988 (20 wins) and 1989 (19) that they have won at least 16 matches in back-to-back seasons.
 
The final team point came down to No. 1 singles, where Artem Khrapko went to a third set after he scored a 6-2 first-set win before falling in a tie-breaker in the second set, 7-2. The senior was unable to take away his opponent's momentum as the Flyers' Jordan Benjamin secured a 6-1 decision in the final set. Khrapko ended his career with a 14-9 record this season, giving him 52 total singles wins.
 
The match started off with all three doubles matchups being played very tightly, two of which were decided in tiebreakers. Dayton won the No. 2 doubles spot with a 7-5 win over David Hager and Shamael Chaudhry. Davidson's tandem of Artem Khrapko and Axel Fries ousted the Flyers' No. 1 pairing of Carsten Fisher and Zach Berry 7-6(2), giving them a finishing record of 12-7 for tops on the team. But, the Flyers' pulled out a back-and-forth final tie-breaker at No. 3, 10-8, to earn the point.
 
Freshman Yash Parikh tied things up at 1-all when he cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6. It was the first-year's fourth straight win.
 
After Dayton went up 3-1, Davidson tied it back up with wins at No. 2 and 4 by seniors Shamael Chaudhry and David Hager. Chaudhry closed out an outstanding season and career with a three-set victory, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, to give him a personal-best 16-5 record. He earned 49 wins in four years.
 
Hager nailed down a 6-4, 6-4 victory to cap off a 12-8 season and give himself 53 career singles wins.
 
Also closing out his career was Jack Riazzi, who fell 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5. The senior had a career-best 14-5 year between No. 5 and 6 positions.
