ORLANDO, Fla. — Davidson saw its season come to an end after it dropped a 4-0 decision to sixth-seeded Massachusetts in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship at the USTA National Campus.
Despite the setback, the third-seeded Wildcats still had a stellar season by finishing 16-5. It was the third consecutive season with 15 or more wins. The match also marked the final season for a very successful senior class of Anna Catharine Feaster, Ally Sexton and Ava Todd, who combined to go 61-26 overall and 20-5 in league matches during their four years.
In a second matchup of the season, UMass (12-6) avenged a defeat to the 'Cats during the regular season. It took the doubles point after wins of 6-4 and 6-2 at No. 1 and 3 position, while then capturing singles wins at No. 2 (6-4, 6-0), 3 (6-3, 6-1) and 6.
Feaster, in her final collegiate match, saw her match not finish as she was leading 6-2, 5-4 at No. 1. The senior closed out her career with a 9-8 record this season and won 52 singles matches to go with 53 doubles wins over four years.
Playing her last match was Sexton in doubles action as she and teammate Lindsay Song played to a 4-all draw. The duo had a team-best 11-5 record on the year, giving Sexton 54 career doubles victories.
At No. 6, Todd saw her season-best nine-match win streak come to an end after falling 6-1, 6-3. It was an outstanding season for the senior, who went 15-3 in singles play (6-0 in A-10 matches) and ended her career with 63 total wins for the most in the program dating back to 2000.
