Women's T&F Begin Outdoor Campaign at Coastal Carolina Invite

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Davidson women's track and field team opened the 2018 outdoor campaign with the opening day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational Friday.
The Wildcats got things going with 2017 NCAA East Regional qualifier Carly Peters in the javelin. The sophomore opened her season with a second place finish overall, marking a throw of 40.89-meters (134'2) on her fourth toss of the day.
Senior Stephanie Hautamaa took fourth in the pole vault, clearing 3.50-meters (11'5.75), while sophomore Hannah Malkofsky-Berger cleared 3.05m (10'0), good for eighth overall. Sophomore Makayla Binter won her heat and placed fourth in the long jump, marking a leap of 5.45m (17'10.75).
The Wildcats claimed a victory in the 4x800m relay. The team of Maddie Hunter, Sophia Mills, Claire Nieusma and Sierra Ponthier carried the baton around the track in 9:22.41, over 9 seconds faster than the second place team from Cornerstone (9:31.82).
The 4x200m squad of Katie Hines, Grace Loehr, Saidah Rahman and Jennifer Thompson placed fifth with a time of 1:45.90, the fastest time run in school history.
Davidson returns to the track tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 10 for the final day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational. The first event is slated to go off at 9:30 a.m.
