ORLANDO, Fla. —
The Davidson women's tennis team got their trip to Florida off on a positive start by scoring their first Atlantic 10 win with a 6-1 decision over Duquesne at the USTA National Campus Center Monday morning.

The Wildcats (8-2, 1-0 A-10) won their fifth straight on the season and won their conference opener for the fifth consecutive year. The Dukes (9-2, 2-1 A-10) three-match win streak was halted, sending them to just their second defeat of the season and first league setback.

"The team fought a hard battle today," said head coach Susanne Dekpa. "They definitely had to overcome some adversity and work through some areas in their game that forced them to grow and improve. I'm so proud of their willingness to focus on the process in order to get better not just today but moving forward for matches in the future.

The match started off by Davidson sweeping all three doubles matches. The two teams of Megan Scholvinck and Anna Catharine Feaster at No. 1, and Samantha Armas and Alexandra Abele at No. 3 each won their first matches together on the season by the scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

The pair of Lindsay Song and Ally Sexton improved to a team-best 7-3 with a 6-2 decision at No. 2.

In singles action, reigning A-10 Player of the Week Alexandra Abele won her career-best ninth straight match after a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 3.

The freshman Song kept her perfect season going with a three set victory, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, at No. 5 to move to 7-0 on the season.

The duo of Gabrielle Centenari and Ava Todd each collected their sixth consecutive wins at No. 4 and 6, respectively. Centenari moved to 8-2 on the year with a 6-3, 6-2 win, setting a personal-best for her win streak, while Todd needed a third set but rolled in the final set by taking a 7-5, 3-6, 6-0 decision to run her record to 6-1.

Scoring the final team point was Feaster at No. 1 with her own three set triumph by the score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Davidson will finish up its trip to Florida against Coastal Carolina tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. The match will be played on the campus of Stetson.
