Davidson Rolls to Fourth Straight Win, Downs Navy 6-1

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team kept their winning ways going Tuesday afternoon inside the Knobloch Tennis Center by cruising to a 6-1 home win vs. Navy to push their winning streak to a season-high four in a row.
The Wildcats (10-4) reached the 10-win mark for the fourth consecutive year, and fifth time in the past six overall, by taking five of the six singles positions and winning the top two doubles spots. The Mids fell to 16-7 on the season. The two teams had not met since 1999, with Davidson winning that match as well.
Several Wildcats kept their winning streaks intact, including the No. 1 doubles team of Axel Fries and Artem Khrapko, The duo won their fourth straight by blanking Navy's top team, 6-0. They moved to a team-best 8-4 on the season.
Shamael Chaudhry and David Hager won their second in a row with a 6-4 decision to seal up the doubles point.
In singles play, Khrapko again scored another win behind a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 1 to push his season-high winning streak to eight in a row, which is the best on the team this season. The senior is now 10-4, making it four straight years with at least 10 wins.
Joining him in the 10-win column on the season was Thomas Mason and Fries, who earned wins at No. 3 and 4, respectively, while each taking home their third straight wins overall. Mason nailed down a 7-5, 6-0 win to move to go to 10-3, while Fries need a super tie-breaker win, 10-8, to finish off his match after he split his first two sets by the scores of 6-3 and 3-6.
Chaudhry ran his record to 9-3 by winning his third straight at No. 2, a 6-3, 6-4 triumph. Fellow classmate Jack Riazzi finished off the final team point with a strong 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 6 to give him an impressive 8-2 record.
Davidson, which finished up playing four matches in a nine-day span, returns to Atlantic 10 play when it travels to Washington, D.C., to face George Mason and George Washington, March 24-25.
