
Coats, Cooper, League, and Resweber Garner All-Academic Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson swimming and diving capped their 2018 season by placing four members on the Atlantic 10 All-Academic teams, announced by the league Monday afternoon.
Seniors Riley League and Sarah Coats became three-time selections, having been named to the squads in both their sophomore and junior seasons. Joining League on the men's side is now two-time member Clay Resweber and first-time honoree Crossan Cooper.
To be recognized on the league's all-academic squads, the student must be at least a sophomore and carry a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better, as well as a key contributor in the pool. The team is voted on by the each school's swimming sports information contact.
League boasts the top GPA in the entire conference for the second-straight year, double majoring in economics and philosophy. He was a finalist in all three individual events at the 2018 A-10 Championships and set a new program record in the 100 breast (55.12). A CoSIDA Academic All-Region choice a year ago, the Rock Hill, S.C., product has served as a two-year captain and ranks second in school history in the 200 fly and third in the 200 IM.
League is a Bryan Scholar and also devotes time as a research fellow at the Vann Center for Economics and as a teaching assistant in the Davidson Economics Department.
Resweber swept the podium at the 2018 Championships, winning the 200 freestyle, taking silver in the 500 free, and bronze in the 1650 free, where his cut of 15:38.77 set a new school record. The Strath Haven, Pa., native ranks second in program history in the 200, 500, and 1,000 freestyle events. Resweber is a chemistry major and six-time Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.
Cooper appears on the team for the first time, chiseling his name onto the squad after earning the bronze medal in the 400 IM at the 2018 Championships. He also recorded two other Top 8 finishes, coming in fifth in the 1650 freestyle and 6th in the 500 free. The two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week in 2017 recorded the second-best performance in school history in the 400 IM at the A-10s, and he ranks in the Top 10 in program history in four other events. Cooper is an economics major and a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He works as a solutions integration intern at a prosperous marketing firm and spends time as an assistant coach for a summer league team in his native Alabama.
Veteran Sarah Coats was the lone women's team selection, boasting a two-year captaincy and 2018 A-10 Performer of the Week plaudit to her resume. The Atlanta product ranks fourth all-time in the 100 breast and sixth in the 200 and finished in the Top 25 in each of her events at the 2018 Championships. The winner of the Howard Award (given to the top junior at Davidson for their work in the field of chemistry), Coats will be attending Emory University Medical School next fall.
George Washington placed five members across the two teams, while Duquesne named five women. Davidson's four was second-best among the league.
