Singles Play Carries Wildcats to Third Straight Win, 6-1

DAVIDSON, N.C.  — Davidson collected its second Atlantic 10 win of the season when it won five of the six singles matches as well as earning the doubles point in a 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's at home Sunday afternoon in men's tennis inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.
 
The Wildcats (2-0 A-10) won their third straight and ninth in the past 11 matches to run their record to 9-4. SJU fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in A-10 action. The 'Cats have won all four meetings with the Hawks since joining the A-10.
 
Davidson netted wins at No. 1-5 singles positions, led by Artem Khrapko as the senior won his season-high seventh straight match with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the top spot.
 
All winning their second matches in a row, rolling in straight sets, were Shamael Chaudhry (No. 2, 6-1, 6-1), Thomas Mason (No. 3, 6-3, 6-1), Axel Fries (No. 4, 6-3, 6-3) and David Hager (No. 5, 6-3, 6-2). Fries and Mason each secured their ninth wins of the season to tie Khrapko for the team lead, while Chaudhry won his eighth and Hager his sixth on the year.
 
For the seventh time this year, the Wildcats started off with a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. The pair of Fries and Khrapko scored a 6-4 win at No. 1 to push their win streak to three in a row, while Chaudhry and Hager earned a 6-2 win at No. 2 to move their season record to 6-2, second behind Fries and Khrapko (7-4).
