NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Senior Artem Kharpko capped off his strong week on the tennis court by being named the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week as announced by the league office for matches played from Feb. 20-27.
The weekly honor is the senior's third overall and first since his freshman year in 2015.
A two-time all-conference pick, Khrapko went 2-0 in singles action at No. 1 last week in matches against N.C. Central and at Virginia Tech. He rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 victory last Friday, Feb. 23, against the Eagles at home and then won an impressive three-set decision by downing the 29th-ranked player in the nation, Mitch Harper, from Tech on Sunday. Khrapko tallied his second three-set victory of the season by the score of 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
The two wins pushed his winning streak to four in a row, currently the longest on the team. A native of Corning, N.Y., Khrapko is 6-4 on the season at No. 1 and has a career record of 44-29 in singles play. He also has a 4-4 doubles record this year, giving him 28 career wins overall.
Davidson heads to Florida for a pair of matches, opening Atlantic 10 play March 5 against Duquesne at the USTA Center in Orlando and then traveling to take on Bethune Cookman, March 8.
