PHILADELPHIA, Pa. —
Davidson earned a much-needed win on the road Wednesday night, grinding out a 58-51 decision against La Salle inside Tom Gola Arena in Atlantic 10 women's basketball action.

The Wildcats halted a four-game losing streak to improve to 11-17 overall and 6-9 in A-10 play, while La Salle fell to 8-20 on the season and 3-12 in the league.

Clinging to a one-point lead, 47-46, with five minutes left, the freshmen duo of Sarah Donovan and Katie Turner stopped Davidson's cold streak on offense with a layup and a three-ball to make it 52-46 with just over three minutes to go. The Wildcats had not hit a field goal since the 9:01 mark in the fourth and scored just one point at the free throw line at the 7:18 mark.

Mackenzie Latt (4-of-4) and Turner (2-of-2) would then seal up the win by hitting six straight free throws in the last 20 seconds.

Davidson went just 4-of-16 from the field in the fourth, but held La Salle to 6-of-20 shooting in the quarter and just 21-of-64 (32.8 percent) for the game.

Latt registered her second consecutive double-double, and eighth on the year, with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while adding three blocks and two steals. Turner paced the 'Cats with 18 total points and dished out four assists.

Kianna Speight, who caused a big turnover in the closing minute, pocketed a career-best four steals.

The Explorers put three players in double figures with Amy Griffin scoring 18 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. Shalina Miller and Adreana Miller had 10 points each, while Ashanti Freeland finished with 10 rebounds.

La Salle won the battle on the glass, 49-39, getting 18 offensive rebounds, but the 'Cats held it to just six second-chance points.

The Wildcats led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter, but the Explorers chipped away in the third with a 15-8 run and outscored the 'Cats 20-13 to cut the Wildcats 11-point halftime lead (29-18) to 42-38 at the end of the quarter.

It was a good opening two quarters for the Wildcats, who raced out to a 16-6 lead in the first quarter. Turner made her 67th triple of the year during the spurt as well, moving her into second in the Wildcats' single season record book.

In the second quarter, another three-ball from Turner made it 27-12 with 3:23 left. La Salle got within in 27-18 before Latt hit a put-back layup for a 29-18 lead at the break.

Davidson wraps up the regular season Saturday with a 2 p.m. Senior Day game against VCU at home.

GAME NOTES: This was the fifth meeting all-time between both teams … Davidson made it 3-2 in the series with the win, taking both wins on the road … Justine Lyon is one points away from 1,000 for her career … Mackenzie Latt's double-double was the 27th of her career, fourth-most since the program was restarted in 1992-93 … the senior is two rebounds from moving into second all-time in rebounds … Katie Turner's three triples gave her 69 on the season, second-most in a Wildcat single season and just five away from tying the record … both Turner and Latt are riding nine-game streaks of scoring in double figures.
