KINGSTON, R.I. – Junior thrower Brady Logan won the shot put in school record fashion at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship Sunday at Mackal Fieldhouse on the campus of Rhode Island.
Logan, the 2017 A-10 outdoor shot champion, is the first Wildcat ever to break 16 meters indoors, stretching the tape 16.52 meters (54'2.5), a half meter further than the runner-up competitor from URI. His mark is over a meter further than his previous program record of 15.46m set on Jan. 28 at the JDL Dual Meet Madness.
Davidson placed ninth overall, registering 44 points. Host URI won the men's title by a wide margin, recording 204 points. George Mason and VCU rounded out the top three teams.
"This weekend was a great experience for us," said head coach Renny Waldron. "We brought 16 guys to this meet, and for 10 of them, this was their first indoor season at Davidson. Our indoor captains, Sean Caveney and Brady Logan, led the way with their performances and have been a great example for the rest of the team to follow."
Wildcat junior Dylan Carmack took third in his second event of the weekend, stopping the clock in personal best fashion in the 3k (8:24.00). Carmack opened the weekend with the same result in the 5k on the champs opening day.
The 'Cats recorded a pair of scores in the 200-meter dash from two rookies. Freshman Miles Hollimon placed third (22.30 seconds), while classmate Nick Peeples claimed seventh (22.70).
Junior Sean Caveney returned in the 60-meter hurdles to place fifth overall, stopping the clock in 8.37 seconds. Sophomore James Davis also took fifth, earning 4420 points in the heptathlon, a new program record. In his first A-10 Indoor Championship, Daniel Alvarez took eighth and scored in the finals of the 1k, stopping the clock in 2:37.74.
The 4x400-meter relay team concluded the championship, taking sixth with a time of 3:22.85.
"We had some breakthrough performances with Dylan getting third in two events and Miles in the 200m. We come out of this meet a better team and looking forward to outdoors and getting George Williams and Jacob Hostetler back."
