DAVIDSON, N.C. — In a match that came down to the No. 5 singles position, Winthrop halted Davidson's three-match win streak by taking the win in singles for a 4-3 decision Sunday afternoon in women's tennis inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.

Tied at 3-all in the team points, sophomore Samantha Armas looked to try and pull out the win for the Wildcats (3-2), but she dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Aida Kelic for the Eagles' final team point.

"The team fought really hard today, and they continued to work on the process and their goals throughout the match," said head coach Susanne Depka. "I was really proud of everyone's effort today."

Winthrop (1-2) opened the match by picking up wins of 6-1 and 6-4 at No. 1 and 2 doubles for the first point. The pair of Ally Sexton and Lindsay Song kept their win streak alive at four in a row with a 6-1 victory at No. 3.

Alexandra Abele, Gabrielle Centenari and Song each won their singles matches for the 'Cats' three team points. Abele won her team-best fourth consecutive match, sealing up a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 3.

Needing a third set was Centenari at No. 4, as the junior pulled out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win, while the freshman Song remained perfect on the season at 3-0 with a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 6.

Davidson continues its eight-match homestand with a 1 p.m. match vs. UNC Wilmington, Feb. 18.
