Wrestling drops dual with George Mason

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson wrestling wrapped up the first semester Thursday night with a non-conference dual against George Mason University, falling to the Patriots in Belk Arena, 34-6.
With the loss Davidson drops to 2-4 overall, while with the win Mason improves to 4-1.
In a match that started in the 174-pound weight class, junior Conor Fenn knotted the score at three-all with a 6-3 decision over Paul Pierce. With the win, Fenn improves to 8-6 on the year.
The 'Cats second hand raised was freshman Caleb Ziebell. The Slinger, Wisc., native jumped out to an 8-0 lead, but Julio Algeria battled back, using five takedowns in the final period to make it close, but Ziebell held on.
Davidson heavyweight Mitchell Trigg wrestled the first nationally ranked grappler of his young career, falling by decision to No. 17 Matt Voss, 10-4. Senior Tony Palumbo took a slim 1-0 edge into the final frame, but Patriot 157-pounder Kolby Ho strung together a pair of last-minute takedowns to seal the victory, 5-2.
The Wildcat return to the mat Friday, January 4 in a dual against Franklin and Marshall. First bout from Lancaster, Pa. is slated for 3 p.m. The following day, Saturday, Jan. 5, Davidson competes in the F&M Open at the same site.
