Women's Track & Field set 4 new program records in opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –The Davidson women's track and field team opened the 2018-19 season with three program records and five wins at the JDL Early Bird Classic Sunday at JDL Fast Track. 
 
Wildcat senior Tori Long, junior Katie Hines and the 4x400-meter relay team all reset school records in the first meet of the season.
 
Hines won the 200-meter dash in record-setting fashion, stopping the clock in 25.63 seconds to put herself atop the all-time list. Long placed second in the 400-meters and snapped her own school standard, crossing the line 57.91 seconds, good for second overall. Junior Makalyla Binter also broke a program mark in the long jump. Binter stretched the tape 5.45 meters (17'10.75) to place second in the long jump.
 
The Wildcats ended the meet with their final school record of the day in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Hines, Long, Grace Loehr and Bianca Nolde-Lopez raced the baton around the track in 3:54.50 for the win. 
 
Also claiming victories on the day for Davidson, seniors Sophia Mills and Caroline Yarbrough and sophomore Eleni Daughters.
 
Mills set a new personal best time in the mile, 5:01.91, converting to below 5:00 on a banked track. Yarbrough cruised to victory in the 3k, stopping the clock in 9:58.44, while Daughters snapped the tape in the 800-meters in 2:15.20. Yarbrough won her event by nearly 30 seconds.
 
Davidson freshman Megan Corso narrowly missed out on the program standard in the 60-meter hurdles, stopping the clock in 9.24 seconds, just .02 off the record set in 2010.
 
Long and sophomore Loehr each claimed top-five results in the 400 meters. Long went two laps around the track in 57.91 seconds, Loehr in 58.93. Senior Claire Nieusma placed fourth in the half mile, stopping the clock in 2:22.49. Junior Paige McKinney was fifth in the 3k (10:36.08).
 
Davidson returns to action Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Wake Forest Invitational, to be competed at JDL Fast Track.
