Costa, Fenn pin three each at Wolfpack Open

RALEIGH, N.C. – Davidson junior's Hunter Costa and Conor Fenn each recorded three pins at the Wolfpack Open Sunday on the campus of North Carolina State University.
Fenn pinned his first three opponents of the day, all in the first round, to advance to the 184-pound semifinals. Fenn dropped the semis bout in a major and finished 3-2 on the day.
After falling in the championship first round of the 165-pound weight class, Costa rattled off three straight falls in 1:45, 3:38 and 3:50. Costa entered the day with just one career fall.
The third Wildcat to get their hand raised three times was freshman heavyweight Mitchell Trigg. Trigg posted his second fall of the season and a pair of major's.
Kyle Gorant went 2-2 on the day at 133 pounds and notched his fifth fall of the season. The Coopersburg, Pa., native pinned Anthony Schiess of Southern Conference foe, Gardner-Webb, in the first period.
Senior 157-pounder Tony Palumbo went 3-2 with a pair of wins over league foes. Palumbo outlasted Chattanooga's Ryan Resnick (4-2) and The Citadel's Grant Speer in a technical fall (20-5).
Caleb Ziebell (141) won a match over Pembroke's Will Deese, 7-3.
Davidson returns to the mats Saturday, Dec. 1 with a tri-match against VMI in SoCon action and against Sacred Heart.
