DURHAM, N.C. — The Davidson volleyball team got back on the winning track Tuesday evening with a 3-0 win at N.C. Central in the Wildcats' final non-conference match of the year.
Davidson held a .247 to .040 advantage in hitting percentage — including a high of .381 in the first set — while improving to 8-8. The Eagles fell to 4-13.
"It was great to see the team perform at a high level during a mid-week road match," Davidson coach Chris Willis said. "Central challenged us in serve receive, and we responded well offensively."
Freshman Hattie Rodriguez led the Wildcats by matching her career-high with 13 kills, while senior Mason Rooney had team-highs of 19 assists and six aces to go with seven kills and junior Josie Treadwell finished with a team-leading 13 digs. Davidson won the first two sets by a 25-16 margin, then rallied from a 5-point deficit to win the third 25-21.
"Mason and Katharine (Franz) terminated for us in system, and I was proud of how Hattie and Ciera (Cockrell) carried us when we struggled passing," Willis said. "Overall, it was a good balance of offense and a nice effort defensively."
An outside hitter from nearby Charlotte Catholic High, Rodriguez has had double-digit kills in six matches this year. She also had 13 in a 3-0 win over Marist Aug. 25.
Cockrell had eight kills, and Franz added six.
The win snapped a four-match losing streak for the Wildcats.
