Volleyball Hosts Billikens, Flyers This Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Riding its longest win streak since 2004, the Davidson volleyball team is back in action this weekend with two Atlantic 10 home matches.

The Wildcats (12-8 overall, 5-4 A-10) host Saint Louis Friday at 7 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season home slate with Senior Day Sunday (1 p.m.) against Dayton.

Davidson has won its last five matches, including four in the A-10.

Cockrell gets A-10 honor
On Monday, Davidson's Ciera Cockrell was named Atlantic 10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 15-21. The honor is the first of the senior's career.
The outside hitter from Waxhaw had a career-high 24 kills in a 3-2 win at Rhode Island last Sunday, including four in the decisive fifth-set win. Cockrell also had eight kills in the second set. Her week also included a 22-kill performance in a 3-1 win at Fordham.

Rooney still out front
Davidson senior Mason Rooney continues to lead the country with five triple-doubles.
Her most recent came in a 3-1 win over George Washington Oct. 12 when she had 17 kills, 21 assists and 12 digs. Rooney has also had double-digit kills, assists and digs against Charlotte, Mississippi State, Charleston Southern and in the first meeting with Saint Louis.Â
Senior Day coming soon
Davidson will recognize four seniors prior to Sunday's match with Dayton. The Wildcats will honor Cockrell, Rooney, Katharine Franz and Sam Thompson.

Scouting the Billikens
Saint Louis (4-17, 3-6) has won two of its last three matches. The Billikens earned victories against Rhode Island and Fordham before last Friday's 3-0 loss to Dayton. Maya Taylor ranks second in the A-10 with 4.01 kills per set and third with 301 total kills.

Scouting the Flyers
Dayton (17-6, 8-1) enters the weekend in second place in the A-10, and the Flyers have won five of their last six as they head to first-place VCU Friday. Flyers outside hitter Lauren Bruns leads the league with 384 kills and 4.36 kills per set.
