THE BRONX, N.Y. – The Davidson volleyball team stretched its win streak to a season-best four matches with a 3-1 victory at Fordham Friday afternoon at Rose Hill Gym.
The Wildcats, who followed up on wins over N.C. Central, George Washington and George Mason, are now 11-8 overall and 4-4 in the Atlantic 10.
"Confidence is the biggest component of our recent success," said Davidson coach Chris Willis. "Winning breeds success and vice versa."
The Wildcats responded from a 25-20 loss in Friday's first set by building a 10-2 lead in the second en route to a 25-21 win. The third and fourth sets were tight most of the way, but the Wildcats emerged with 25-20 and 25-19 victories.
Davidson's Ciera Cockrell had a team-high 22 kills, while Mason Rooney added 16 kills and 24 assists. Sydney Champaigne led the way with 26 assists, and Josie Treadwell had a team-high 19 digs.
The Wildcats held Fordham (9-12, 2-6) to a .165 hitting percentage.
"This was a gritty performance today by the team," said Willis. "Ciera and Mason led the team offensively with some big swings. The environment was the loudest we've played in, and I was thrilled that our athletes fed off of it."
