WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Davidson freshman Miles Hollimon posted the first sub 7-second 60-meter dash in program history as men's track and field opened 2018 at the Wake Forest Invitational at JDL Fast Track.
Hollimon snapped the 60-meter dash program record twice Saturday and became the first Wildcat ever to break 7-seconds. He stopped the clock in 7.03 seconds in the prelims and returned in the finals with a time of 6.98 seconds. He broke a seven-year-old record (7.05) set by JinHan Song in 2011.
"Today was a solid opener coming off of the break," said head coach Renny Waldron. "Miles breaking the school record in the 60 in the prelims and finals was a very positive note for us. Overall we need to be more consistent in our execution, but today was a step in the right direction."
Brady Logan took third in the shot put with his second attempt of the day, marking a toss of 14.21-meters (46.7'5). Junior classmate Dylan Carmack came home in third in the 3k, stopping the clock in 8:38.99. Junior Will Jones (8:58.32) also broke 9 minutes, while sophomore Alex Hazan broke even at 9:00.00.
Senior Ian Robertson took third in the mile with a time of 4:27.83. Junior Sean Caveney placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdle finals, stopping the clock in 8.51 seconds. He qualified with a prelim time of 8.47 seconds. The 'Cats went 5-6-7 in the 200-meter dash led by freshman Nick Peeples (22.72). Sophomore George Williams (22.74) and Hollimon (22.75) followed across the line.
Davidson returns to the track Saturday, Jan. 27 at the BU Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University.
