BOSTON – Freshman Nick Peeples and the 4x400-meter relay team reset program records as Davidson men's track and field competed at the BU John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University Saturday afternoon.
The relay team of Sean Caveney, Miles Hollimon, Nick Peeples and George Williams placed third overall in a loaded field, stopping the clock in 3:17.29. The time edged out the relay run in last season's Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship (3:17.78), a team that also featured Caveney and Williams.
Earlier in the meet, Peeples set the school's 200-meter indoor record, stopping the clock in 21.94 seconds, the first ever Wildcat to break 22 seconds indoors. Just last week, freshman classmate Miles Hollimon became the first Davidson athlete ever to break 7 seconds in the 60-meter dash. Hollimon ran the 200-meters in 22.08 seconds Saturday, getting just out-leaned by his teammate.
Caveney also had a stellar individual day, qualifying for the 60-meter hurdle finals with a preliminary time of 8.39 seconds. He returned to place seventh overall, stopping the clock in 8.42.
Williams broke 50 seconds in the 400-meters, crossing the line with a time of 49.20 seconds, while Garrett Nickelson competed in the 500-meters (1:08.37). Ian Robertson ran the mile (4:21.43).
Dan Alvarez performed well in the 1000-meters, coming home in 2:30.53. Classmate Taylor Drake also competed, stopping the clock in 2:34.06. Senior Dylan Carmack set a new personal record in the indoor 5k, stopping the clock in 14:45.60, good for 18th overall in a strong field.
Davidson returns to the track Sunday, Jan. 27 at the JDL Dual Meet Madness at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
