Cooper and Coats Lead Wildcats in Dual at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – In their first return to the pool since the new year, Davidson's men's and women's swimming and diving combined for nearly 30 Top 3 finishes, but each fell to the Seahawks in dual meet action with UNC Wilmington Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcat women fell by a score of 219-78, while the men dropped at a 199-79 mark.
Leading the way for the men was sophomore Crossan Cooper, who won both the 500 and 1,000 free events by times of 4:39.55 and 9:44.31. His 1,000 mark ranks ninth in the program Top 10, where he is also ranked seventh overall. Touching in right behind him in the 500 was senior Clay Resweber, who clocked in at 4:40.93 and second place.
Resweber also finished as the runner-up in the 200 free (1:41.80). His younger sister, sophomore Frances Resweber, also had a successful day in the lanes, taking third in both the 200 and 500 free events (1:56.71) (5:13.75).
Another top performer on the women's side was senior Sarah Coats, who pulled off a finish sweep, taking first in the 100 breast (1:06.55), second in the 200 breast (2:24.79), and third in the 200 IM (2:12.51). Rookie Sarah Helen Shepherd narrowly edged her out in the IM, clocking in at 2:11.51. She also finished second in the 200 back (2:08.73).
Fellow freshman Kevin Andrews picked up his second win of the season, winning the 100 back with a time of 52.60, while sophomore Brian Hynes took second in the 200 event at 1:54.73.
The A 400 medley relay took second on the women's side (3:58.27) and third on the men's (3:29.78), consisting of quartets of Alexis LeMone, Sarah Coats, Isabella McElrath, and Anabelle Durham and Andrews, Taylor Willenbring, Alex Strasser and Matt Bode.
The teams reversed places for the 200 free relay, as the women's clocked in at 1:41.06 in third (LeMone, Anna Linzell, Durham, Resweber) and the men turned in a time of 1:25.97 in second (Andrews, Ari Snyder, Willenbring, Bode).
The teams will be back in action next weekend, traveling to Williamsburg, Va., to face off against William & Mary.
