ATLANTA, Ga. –
Davidson volleyball dropped its final nonconference contest of the year, falling 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20) to host Georgia State in the Georgia State Invitational Sunday afternoon.

The 'Cats had three with double-digit kills, led by senior Kelly Friers' 17, her second consecutive game to do so, and the sixth time this season she's recorded 15 kills or more. She was named to the Georgia State Invitational All-Tournament team, her third honor of the season. Juniors Mason Rooney and Katharine Franz joined her in the attacking efforts, registering 12 and 11, respectively.

Rooney also added 18 assists and nine digs, falling one shy of her third triple-double of the season, while Franz was one kill away from matching her career-high. Rooney's .524 hitting percentage was a personal season-best.

"We didn't perform with the competitive execution that's necessary to be successful," head coach Chris Willis said. " We had moments of good play, and we need to build our consistency.  I look forward to seeing our improvements this week as we prepare for our first A-10 matchup."

Davidson was tied with the Panthers as late as 22-22 in the opening stanza before an ace and an error gave Georgia State the late push it needed to take the set, 25-23. The 'Cats responded in Set 2, despite a late 5-0 rally on GSU's part, to take the frame 25-20, led by five kills from Rooney and six from Friers. Tied once again at 23-23 in the third set, the Panthers relied on back-to-back Davidson miscues to take the 2-1 lead in the match at 25-23.

Georgia State went on to take the match after holding the lead from the second point forward in the final frame.

The Wildcats return to Belk Arena welcoming Fordham and Rhode Island as they begin conference play on Friday and Sunday, Sept. 22-24.
