The Wildcats improve to 7-5 on the season, and will conclude their pre-conference schedule facing host Georgia State Sunday at 1 p.m.
MATCH ONE: WOFFORD 3, DAVIDSON 1
Senior Kelly Friers and junior Ciera Cockrell led the 'Cats, each turning in double-digit kills with 17 and 10, respectively. It was Friers' seventh-straight double-digit affair, and the fifth time this season recording 15 or more. Junior Katharine Franz continued to carry a strong hitting percentage, finishing at a .333 clip with nine kills.
The Terriers came out ready to rematch, taking the first set 25-21, maintaining a lead as high as five points for the majority of the frame.
Davidson fired back to take Set 2 25-20, led by freshman Ellie Crosley and Friers, who recorded four kills each. The Wildcats were unable to stifle the powerful swing of Wofford's Catie Cronister, who went on to collect 19 slams in the match and lead the Terriers to a 3-1 victory.
MATCH TWO: DAVIDSON 3, SOUTH CAROLINA STATE 0
The Wildcats turned in their third sweep of the season, downing the Bulldogs overwhelmingly in the opening frame, and then maintaining steady momentum in the final two sets.
In an all-around team effort which saw 14 of its 15 members on the court, Davidson was led by a career-outing from freshman Remi Lehnertz, who turned in nine kills. Crosley also had a strong performance, hitting at a stellar .875 efficiency, a new career-best, registering seven kills.
Davidson used three separate five-point rallies to build a steady lead in the opening stanza, but the Bulldogs kept it much closer in Set 2, coming as close at 16-13 before the Wildcats capitalized on seven errors to take the frame.
A late-frame surge in Set 3 from Cockrell provided the 'Cats the cushion to complete the sweep, as the junior slammed six kills in the final 16 points.
