Carmack Claims 5k for Men's T&F at Mason Spring Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. – Dylan Carmack ended the night with a win in the 5,000-meter run as the Davidson track and field team competed at the Mason Spring Invitational Saturday at George Mason Stadium.
After a long day the meet went under the lights and Carmack shined. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native ran away with the 5k crown, setting a new personal best with a time of 14:32.83. Freshman teammate Sam Thomas also ran well, stopping the clock with a new PR of 15:08.40.
Senior Will Brewster set a new personal best in the 1500-meter run, stopping the clock in 3:49.95, just under a second faster than his previous best, 3:50.93. The Grayslake, Ill., native placed 14th overall, but was the 10th collegiate runner to cross the line. Classmate Walker Mogen also set a new PR, crossing the line in 3:52.26, the 13th collegian.
Freshman James Davis claimed fourth in the pole vault, beating two opponents from William & Mary on attempts. The rookie cleared 4.25-meters (13'11.25).
Freshman George Williams placed eighth overall in the 400-meter run, stopping the clock in 48.78 seconds. Fellow rookie Garrett Nickelson won his heat and placed 14th overall with a time of 49.70 seconds. Junior Sean Caveney finished 11th overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.20 seconds.
The Wildcats return to the track Saturday, April 15 at the Charlotte Invitational.
