DAVIDSON, N.C.  —
Davidson dropped its regular season finale Saturday at home as George Mason spoiled the Wildcats' Senior Day with a 19-9 victory in Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse at Richardson Stadium on a humid afternoon.

Despite the setback, the 'Cats (7-8, 5-4 A-10) earned one of six spots in next week's A-10 Women's Lacrosse Championship. They will be seeded fifth and are set to play the Patriots, who earned the fourth seed, for the second time in a week in the quarterfinals at 1:00 p.m. next Thursday, May 4, on the campus of Saint Joseph's.

Prior to Saturday's game, Davidson honored its six seniors Nicole Pettiglio, Annie Brockett, Dana Stasieluk, Morgan Burch, and twin sisters Abigail and Kendall Thielemann.

After the past two meetings between both teams came down to a single goal, the Wildcats were unable to stop a quick-striking Mason attack this time. The Patriots raced out to a 7-1 lead after the first 11 minutes of action and never looked back.

Brockett closed out her final game at home with a team-high three goals to push her career best total to 43 on the season. Fellow classmate Kendall Thielemann had two points on a goal and an assist, while Christine Molinari recorded three points on two goals and an assist.

Shayne Antolini dished out two assists, and Shannon Blee and Genna Portner each scored once.

The Patriots (11-6, 7-2 A-10) were paced by Alexa McGovern's six points on four goals and two assists. Chachi Kelehan and Hailey Johnson also netted four goals apiece, while Lindsey Tangeman dished out three assists to go with two goals.

Davidson would get within four goals with 12:26 on the clock after back-to-back scores from Brockett and Molinari, but George Mason closed the first half on a 5-1 run to go up 12-4 at the break.

Thielemann got the 'Cats back on the board forty seconds into the start of the second half off Molinari's 16th assist of the season. Then a few minutes later, Genna Portner put in her 12th goal of the season thanks to a helper from Sarah Kopp to make 12-6.

Mason put the game out of reach by scoring the next five straight goals over a 12-minute span to push its lead to double digits at 17-6.

Scoring the final three goals was Brockett, who had two of the goals, and freshman Blee, who reached the double-digit mark on the season with 10 goals. Antolini tallied an assist on Blee's score, her team-leading 18th of the season.

George Mason held slight advantages in shots, 29-22, and groundballs, 15-12, while earning 20 of the 29 draw controls. Davidson finished 3-for-6 on free-position shots, with Brockett netting two of those goals.

Between the pipes, junior Rose Woolson was credited with six saves and scooped up four groundballs. Pettiglio had three groundballs and Molinari hauled in a career-best three draw controls.
