ORLANDO, Fla. — Despite grabbing the early 1-0 lead, Davidson saw Saint Louis capture four of the six singles positions to take a 4-2 decision in the quarterfinals during the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championships at the USTA National Campus.
The fourth-seeded Wildcats' season ends with a 15-6 record, giving them 45 victories in the past three years. It was the second time this season they had fallen to the Billikens (16-7), who move onto the semifinals to face top-seed VCU Saturday.
The match started off in favor of Davidson, as it took the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and 3 positions. The pair of Anna Catharine Feaster and Ally Sexton blanked Ariana Rodriguez and Aspen Cervin, 6-0, to close out the year on a three-match winning streak and a 12-6 record overall.
Alexandra Abele and Ava Todd sealed up the team doubles point with their 16th victory in 20 matches behind a 6-3 win.
Scoring the lone singles point on the morning was Samantha Armas at No. 6, securing a 6-3, 6-4 decision to cap off her first year with a 12-6 mark. The other four completed singles matches that were won by Saint Louis were decided in straight sets.
Todd saw her season-best 11-match win streak come to end after falling 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5. She finished her junior season with a 15-5 record, one victory off of team-leader Abele's 16-4 mark.
Davidson as a team finished with a 78-37 singles record (31-10 in A-10 play), while going 41-17 in doubles play. Six Wildcats reached the double-digit mark in singles wins this season, the most since the 2010 campaign.
