ORLANDO, Fla. — Davidson cruised through its first round match at the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championships Wednesday morning by giving up just a combined four games in singles and doubles in taking a 4-0 decision against St. Bonaventure at the USTA National Campus.
Davidson (15-5) moves on to the quarterfinals where it will face fifth-seeded Saint Louis Friday at 9 a.m. Both teams played each other earlier this season, with the Billikens taking a 5-2 neutral site match in Dayton, Ohio.
The match started off with the Wildcats tallying wins of 6-1 and 6-0 in doubles at No. 1 and 3 positions, respectively. Megan Scholvinck and Samantha Armas moved to 12-5 on the season, while the No. 3 team of Alexandra Abele and Ava Todd improved to a team-best 15-4.
Abele, Todd and Anna Catharine Feaster sealed up the match win by each scoring singles victories. Five-time A-10 Rookie of the Week Abele gave up just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4, pushing her record to team-best 16-4.
Todd was even more impressive, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 5, winning her 11th consecutive match and ran her record to 15-4. She is 48-13 all-time in singles play during her three years.
Giving the 'Cats their last team point was junior Feaster, who nailed down a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1, pushing her record to 13-5 on the season.
