DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team gears up for the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship starting Thursday, April 27, in Orlando, Fla, at the USTA National Campus.
The Wildcats, coming off one of their best seasons in recent history at 16-7 overall and 4-2 in A-10 matches, earned the fourth overall seed and last opening-round bye out of 12 teams. They will be seeking the program's first-ever A-10 Tournament title after capturing the Southern Conference title nine times.
Davidson's four league wins came against Fordham (7-0), Saint Joseph's (7-0), George Mason (4-2) and St. Bonaventure (6-1). It fell to Richmond and VCU.
With its first round bye, Davidson will get the winner of fifth-seeded Dayton (13-8, 5-0 A-10) or 12th-seeded La Salle (4-14, 0-4 A-10) in the quarterfinals on Friday at 12:30 p.m.

The All-Time Series/Last Meeting
Should the Wildcats face Dayton, it would be the third time all-time. Last year saw the Flyers end the 'Cats season with a tough 4-2 setback in the quarterfinals. The series is tied at 1-all.
Davidson and La Salle would be facing each other for the first time.
A-10 Tournament History
The Wildcats are making their third appearance in the A-10 Tournament. In last year's quarterfinal match against the Dayton Flyers, they fell 4-2 despite opening the match by winning the doubles point.
During Davidson's run in the Southern Conference, it had a 12-14 tournament record that dated back to 1988. The Wildcats won the tournament nine times, collecting titles back in 1954, 1955, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1970, 1971 and 1973.
As for the A-10 Tournament, George Washington has claimed the title in five of the past six years, including winning a thrilling 4-3 decision over top-seeded VCU last year in the championship match.
Richmond earned the No. 1 seed this year, riding a 22-match win streak entering the championship. The Spiders finished the regular season with a 23-3 mark, never losing on their home court.
Scouting the Wildcat Men- Quick Hits
• For the third year in a row, and fourth time in the past five years, Davidson reached the double-digit mark in wins as it finished the regular season with 16.
•The 16 wins were the most in the regular season since 1994 when they had 16 as well. The 'Cats had 18 overall in 1998, earning three of those victories in the Southern Conference Tournament.
• It is the sixth time under head coach Drew Barrett the 'Cats have hit the double-figure mark in wins.
• Coach Barrett is in his 11th season guiding the program and has 148 career wins, including 108 at Davidson.
• Davidson ran off a season-best six-match win streak, two of the wins coming against A-10 foes.
• Davidson collected half of its 16 wins at home with an 8-2 mark, while going 6-5 on the road and 2-0 in neutral site matches.
• The 'Cats as a team earned an outstanding 87 singles wins during the regular season, going 87-42 with a solid 23-12 record in A-10 matches.
• All six singles positions collected over 10 wins each, with the No. 5 slot earning 16 victories.
• Pacing the team was freshman Axel Fries with an 18-4 record (5-1 vs. A-10), including records of 8-3 and 8-1 at No 3 and 5, respectively.
• He was a five-time A-10 Rookie of the Week honoree and enters the A-10 Championship on a three-match win streak.
• Fries rattled off a season-best 12-match singles win streak, tying Artem Khrapko's 12-match streak in 2015. It was the longest win streak dating back to 2003.
• David Hager followed with a personal-best 16-6 record at No. 2, giving him 41 career wins in three years.
• The junior won his third career weekly award by being named A-10 Player of the Week, Feb. 7.
• Hager won a career-best seven straight matches, opening the season 7-0 and winning eight of his first 10 matches overall.
• Also reaching double figures on the season was J.B. Gough (13-6), Shamael Chaudhry (12-10) and Khrapko (11-8).
• Senior Gough's 13 wins tied a career high and pushed his career singles win total to 42.
• Davidson went 37-19 in doubles action, getting 10 of those wins in league matches.
• The pair of Fries and Gough sported a team-best 15-5 record at No. 1.
• It is the most doubles wins since the team of Daniel Bermeo and John Bolton won 14 in 2005.
• The duo of Chaudhry and Jack Riazzi had a record of 7-6 during the regular season, playing mainly at No. 2.
• The Wildcats used seven different combinations at the No. 3 doubles position.
