DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In a first-time matchup, Davidson took a 4-0 win against host Bethune-Cookman in men's tennis as it finished a two-match trip to the state of Florida Thursday morning.
The Wildcats hit the double-digit mark in wins for the fourth time in the past five seasons as they ran their record to 10-4. Bethune Cookman remained winless at 0-9.
For the 10th time this year, Davidson took the early 1-0 lead by grabbing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 3 positions. The pair of Axel Fries and J.B. Gough reached the 10-win plateau for the year with a 6-1 victory, running their record to 10-3. Teaming up for the first time was Jordan Hart and Ricky Saad and they sealed up the point after a 6-3 triumph.
Fries led the way in singles again, registering his 11th consecutive win by giving up just one game in a dominating 6-1, 6-0 performance at No. 3. He moved to 2-0 at that position and 12-1 overall on the year. The 11 straight wins are the most since Artem Khrapko rolled to 12 in a row in 2015.
Securing the 'Cats' final two team points were Shamael Chaudhry and David Hager at the top-two singles slots. At No. 1, Chaudhry improved to 8-5 by picking up a 6-2, 6-0 win.
Hager reached 10 wins for the third straight year by blanking his opponent, 6-0, 6-0, to push his record to 10-3 for the second best mark on the team. He has 35 wins for his career, sitting at 35-13.
The four singles wins pushed Davidson's overall record to 53-23 on the season, while it has a 22-13 doubles record.
