Mt. PLEASANT, S.C. — In a battle between former Southern Conference foes, College of Charleston erased a 2-0 deficit in taking a 5-2 win over the Davidson Wildcats in men's tennis action at Patriots Point Tennis Center.
The defeat halted the Wildcats' four-match winning streak, dropping them to 13-5. The Cougars moved to 11-5 overall and 15-7 in the all-time series.
Davidson had a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point behind wins from its No. 2 and 3 teams. The pair of Ricky Saad and Shamael Chaudhry teamed up for the first time and took a 6-4 decision at No. 2, while Artem Khrapko and Jack Riazzi also played together for the first time and nailed down a 6-3 win at No. 2.
Then in singles action, J.B. Gough gave the 'Cats a 2-0 lead when he cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5 for his ninth win of the season.
It would be all the team points Davidson was able to get with CofC taking wins at the other five singles positions.
Chaudhry saw his four-match win streak halted at No. 1 after a 6-4, 6-3 setback. David Hager also had his four-match singles win streak ended in a 6-2, 7-5 defeat No. 2.
Davidson wraps up its stay in Charleston, S.C., with a match against The Citadel tomorrow.
