For Second Time, Davidson Sweeps A-10 Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the second time this season, the Davidson women's tennis team swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards as sophomore Megan Scholvinck was named the Co-Player of the Week and Samantha Armas earned Rookie of the Week for matches played from March 13-19.
It gave the Wildcats nine weekly awards this year, including seven rookie of the week honors. Armas won her second award this season, while Scholvinck won her first career player of the week honor and second award overall after being named rookie of the week last season once.
The duo went a combined 7-1 in singles and doubles last weekend in A-10 matches against UMass and George Mason.
Scholvinck had a 4-0 mark, keeping her singles and doubles win streaks intact. The Mill Valley, Calif., native tallied 6-3, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-2 victories at No. 2 singles to push her win streak to three in a row and remain perfect in league matches at 5-0. Overall the second-year player ran her record to 11-3, matching her win total from last season.
Freshman Armas, who went 3-1 last weekend, dropped her first singles match to UMass at No. 6 before regrouping with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory against the Patriots. Her record bumped to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in A-10 play.
The tandem teamed up together in doubles action and scored a pair of 6-4 wins at No. 1 to win their third and fourth consecutive matches. They improved their overall record to 9-2, second-best on the team, and stayed unbeaten in league matches at 4-0.
Davidson (11-3, 4-1 A-10) travels to Dayton, Ohio, next weekend to face A-10 teams Dayton (March 24) and Saint Louis (March 26).
