Long and Woods Set New Program Records for Women's T&F

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Davidson sophomore Tori Long and freshman Jada Woods each snapped their own program records for Jen Straub's squad at the JDL College Team Challenge Thursday night at JDL Fast Track.
Long, a native of Greenwood, Ind., stopped the clock in 59.37 seconds, breaking the 400-meter run record she set last season by 0.21 seconds.
Woods, a jumper from Charlotte, N.C., narrowly bested her school record in the triple jump, extending the tape 11.46 (37'7.25") meters and taking first overall with her fifth leap of the night. The rookie set the mark of 11.45-meters (37'5") at the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 21 at JDL.
Junior Sarah Sears led a deep group of 'Cats in the 800-meter run. The Arlington, Va., native placed second overall with a time of 2:17.29. Junior Sierra Ponthier was sixth (2:20.25), freshman Katie Macturk took seventh (2:21.30) and sophomore Sophia Mills eighth (2:23.64).
The Wildcats opened the day with a pair of personal records in the 3k. Junior Laurel Sheffield crossed the line in 10:27.31 to smash her previous PR by over 25 seconds. The Lexington, Va., native took third overall. Senior Caroline Turner snapped her career best by just over four seconds with a time of 10:33.02 and turning in the sixth fastest time of the day. Freshman Susannah Cate took third in the mile with a time of 5:09.92.
Davidson returns to the start line Saturday, Feb. 18 in day one of the Atlantic 10 Championship in Fairfax, Va.
