FAIRFAX, Va. – Davidson sophomore Caroline Yarbrough defended her indoor 3k crown in the final day of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship at Sunday George Mason Field House.
Yarbrough raced away for the win in school record fashion, snapping the tape in 9:52.11. The Greensboro, N.C., native narrowly reset the school mark she set last season by just over one second (9:53.19).
Including Yarbrough, the 'Cats broke six program records at the championship.
"I couldn't be more pleased with the way the women competed this weekend! We finished with our highest point total for an indoor championship, not only from the SoCon years, but since we joined the A-10," said Director of Track & Field Jen Straub. "We broke six school records and had some tremendous individual performances highlighted by our 3k champion, Caroline Yarbrough! I am very proud of our entire program and I am excited to see how both programs grow in the future!"
Freshman Jada Woods reset her own record in the triple jump for the third time this season. The rookie placed third overall with a mark of 11.94 meters (39'2.25"), shattering her previous mark of 11.46 meters set at the JDL College Team Challenge.
Like Woods, senior Hannah Rieden raised the bar in the 800-meter run with a third place result. Rieden bested her 2016 A-10 Championship mark, crossing the line in 2:11.91, half a second faster than the previous record set a year ago.
The 'Cats 4x400-meter relay team broke 4:00 for the first time in program history, stopping the clock in 3:56.00, good for eighth overall.
The Wildcats placed ninth overall, registering 48 total points. The squad boasted 10 top-eight performances over the two-day event.
Junior Sarah Sears made a late move in the mile and cruised home in second overall with a time of 4:53.55. Sears was within a second of claiming the title.
The 'Cats ended the day with a fifth place result in the 4x800-meter relay. The team of Sears, Katie Macturk, Sophia Mills and Sierra Ponthier turned in a time of 9:11.57.
