Peters Crushes Javelin Record in Final Day of 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Davidson freshman Carly Peters broke an 18-year-old program record in the javelin as women's track and field competed on the final day of the Charlotte 49er Classic Saturday ay Belk Track.
Peters toss of 45.91-meters (150'7") snapped the previous school mark by more than 12 meters set by Yolanda Kirby in 1999 (33.51m, 109'11"). The mark hit the NCAA East Region Championship preliminary standard.
Senior Hannah Rieden took third overall, the second collegiate finisher, in the 800-meter run. The Austin, Texas, native stopped in the clock in 2:12.36. Freshman Susannah Cate competed in the 3,000-meter run, taking third (10:24.16). Classmate Katie Macturk recorded an eighth place finish (10:35.52).
Freshman Jada Woods made the finals of the triple jump and placed sixth overall with a leap of 11.84-meters (38'10.25").
The Wildcats return to the track Friday and Saturday, March 24 and 25 at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State.
