WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The men's track and field team prepped for the Atlantic 10 Championship Thursday at the JDL College Team Championship at JDL Fast Track.
Junior Jacob Hostetler claimed first in the 200-meter dash, clocking in a time of 22.49 seconds. The time breaks his old school record set earlier this season at the Wake Forest Invitational by 0.10 seconds. Rookie George Williams placed fifth in the event (22.65).
Williams and Hostetler found themselves knotted at 7.16 seconds in separate heats of the 60-meter dash. After consulting the high-speed cameras, Williams (7.159) was placed just ahead of Hostetler to take fifth and sixth overall, respectively.
"Overall we had a really solid meet," said head coach Renny Waldron. "We are in a better position on the A-10 performance lists and have a lot of confidence headed into the championship next week."
Helping improve his standing in the league, freshman James Davis claimed first in the pole vault, clearing 4.55 meters (14'11). The rookie opened at 4.25 meters and after missing on his first attempt, went on to clear that, 4.40 and 4.55 meters without hesitation.
Wildcat rookie Garrett Nickelson placed third overall in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.68 seconds, while freshman Sean Caveney leaned across the line in fifth place of the 60-meter hurdles, stopping the clock at 8.56 seconds. Fellow rookie Sam Thomas scored in the mile with a time of 4:30.14.
Three Wildcats scored in the 800-meter run led by senior Walker Mogen's third place result. The Radford, Va., native stopped the clock in 1:55.49. Junior Ramsay Ritchie was fifth (1:56.90), while senior Will Brewster was eighth (1:57.67).
Davidson returns to the start line Saturday, Feb. 18 in day one of the Atlantic 10 Championship in Fairfax, Va.
