DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson pushed its win streak to five in a row Saturday after it swept a pair of 7-0 matches against visiting Wingate and North Carolina A&T inside the Knobloch Tennis Center in men's tennis.

The Wildcats (6-1), who tied last year's longest winning streak at five, have won all five of their matches during the streak by the score of 7-0. It is the longest they have not allowed a team point dating back to 1988. The previous best was four in a row in 2004.

Several players kept their personal singles win streaks alive on the day. Leading the way was David Hager, who remained unbeaten by winning his sixth and seventh straight to open the year, while pushing his overall win streak dating back to last year to a career-high 10 in a row. The junior tallied wins of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.

The duo of Shamael Chaudhry and Axel Fries ran their singles win streaks to five straight each. At the top spot, Chaudhry recorded wins of 6-2, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-2 to move to 5-2 on the year, while Fries needed a super tie-breaker vs. Wingate to capture a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) before blanking his Aggie opponent, 6-0, 6-0. The freshman is an impressive 6-1 on the year, with five of those wins coming at No. 5.

At No. 3 vs. Wingate, Artem Khrapko won his fourth straight with a 6-1, 6-2 decision, while J.B. Gough at N. 4 netted a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 victory for his fourth consecutive win as well.

In the match vs. N.C. A&T, Jordan Hart (6-1, 6-2), Ricky Saad (6-4, 6-4) and Jack Riazzi (6-2, 6-0) each won singles matches. Hart ran his win streak to three in a row, Saad won his second straight and Riazzi collected his first win of the season.

Netting his first collegiate victory was Thomas Mason vs. Wingate, as the freshman picked up a 6-2, 6-0 decision.

In doubles action, the duo of Fries and Gough at No. 1 scored wins of 6-3 and 6-1 to move their record to a team-best 5-2 on the season.

The team of Kotaro Horiuchi and Matthew Rose won 6-3 vs. Wingate to seal the doubles point for the 'Cats and earn their first win together. In addition, the senior pair of Zack Zapatero and Saad also won their first of the year with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 vs. N.C. A&T.

Through the first seven matches of the season, Davidson is off to an outstanding start in both singles and doubles, having a mark of 34-6 in singles while going 12-4 in doubles action.

Davidson next goes on the road for a pair of matches in Blacksburg, Va., Feb. 11, where it will take on St. Bonaventure in a neutral site match and then play Virginia Tech.
