Abele Tabbed A-10 Rookie of the Week For Third Time

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the third time this season Alexandra Abele was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week after another stellar week, as announced by the league office Tuesday for matches from Feb. 21-27.
It is Davidson's fifth weekly award this season and the program's 12th overall rookie weekly award since joining the A-10 in 2014-15.
Abele had another strong week, going a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles at home versus Appalachian State and Rhode Island, while pushing her win streaks in each category to five and eight straight, respectively.
The freshman from Cincinnati, had singles wins of 6-2, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 to run her singles win streak to five in a row and push her overall record to a team-leading mark of 8-1, while going to 2-0 in A-10 matches. In doubles, she teamed with Ava Todd as the duo remained perfect on the season with a pair of shutout 6-0 wins at No. 3 and they are now 8-0 on the year, 2-0 in A-10 matches.
Davidson next travels to Deland, Fla., to take on UNC Wilmington and Stetson, March 5-6.
