
Fries Grabs Another A-10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Another impressive week, another weekly award for Davidson's Axel Fries as he was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week Tuesday by the conferences office for matches played from Feb. 21-27.
The freshman earned his third rookie of the week award and gave the Wildcats their fourth overall on the season.
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Fries went 3-0 in singles and doubles combined against Radford and VCU. The freshman helped the Wildcats claim the doubles point at Radford with a 6-4 victory with partner J.B. Gough. He also netted a 6-4 doubles win against VCU to push his doubles win streak to three in a row and improve to a team-best 9-3 overall with a 2-0 conference record.
Fries was the lone Wildcat to score a team point versus VCU, nailing down a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 5 to run his singles win streak to nine straight. He pushed his record to a team-leading 10-1 and has a 2-0 conference mark.
Davidson continues its four-match road trip by heading to Florida to face UCF and Bethune Cookman, March 5-6.
