DAVIDSON, N.C. — Senior Annie Brockett scored a career-high six goals and added an assist, and Davidson used a 8-0 run in the first half to pull away in a 14-7 triumph in its women's lacrosse home opener against Siena Tuesday night inside Richardson Stadium.
Brockett tied the game at 1-all on a free-position shot. Then, she started the rally with another goal less than 30 seconds later off a pass from fellow classmate Kenall Thielemann and Davidson (1-1) never looked back.
Thielemann dished out a career-high four assists, all coming in the first half, and picked up a goal for a personal-best five points.
Shannon Blee netted her first two collegiate goals during the game-changing run off assists from Thielemann, while Genna Portner and Christine Molinari added two scores each and Sarah Kopp rounded out the Wildcats' scoring with a goal.
Siena's (0-2) Briana Sirianni had two goals and an assist, while five other Saints had one goal each.
After the Saints cut the lead down to five, 8-3, to start the second half, Brockett and Molinari netted back-to-back scores to push the lead up to 10-3. Three straight goals later by Siena made it 10-6, but Davidson answered right back with three of its own at the 9:11, 2:11 and 1:50 marks to put the game out of reach at 13-6.
Goalie Rose Woolson won her first game of the season by earning 11 saves and picked up six groundballs to go with a caused turnover.
Defender Rachel Hianik scooped up four groundballs and forced a pair of miscues, as did Shayne Antolini, who was one of four 'Cats to get two draw controls each.
Davidson had a 16-14 edge in groundballs, while Siena won the battle in shots (24-21) and draw controls (13-10). The Wildcats went 2-for-5 on free-position shots and were successful on 15 of their 18 clear attempts.
Davidson remains at home to face William & Mary this Sunday, Feb. 26, with game time set for 1 p.m.
