PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Despite another 20-point outing from Justine Lyon, Davidson dropped a 69-54 decision on the road Saturday at Saint Joseph's in Atlantic 10 women's basketball inside Hagan Arena.
The Wildcats saw their two-game win streak come to an end, while falling to 0-4 all-time vs. the Hawks (14-13, 11-4 A-10).
Lyon registered her third straight 20-point game, finishing with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-22 shooting and added five rebounds. She has now recorded at least 20 points in five of her last seven games.
Freshman Ally Welling tied her season best with 12 points, while fellow classmate Andrea Robinson tallied eight points and eight rebounds. Senior Rachel Piles pulled in seven rebounds and blocked a career-high four shots.
Saint Joseph's took the lead for good at 20-10 behind an 11-0 run that ended the first quarter and carried into the second quarter to erase a 10-9 Wildcat lead.
The Hawks were paced by Alyssa Monaghan's 21 points, draining 15 of those points behind the arc on five three-balls. Adashia Franklyn had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Chelsea Woods (11) and Amanda Fioravanti (10) also scored in double figures.
Saint Joseph's lead would reach 26-14 halfway through the second quarter, but Davidson (6-21, 4-11 A-10) held them scoreless the rest of the quarter and used its own run, an 8-0 spurt, to get within 26-22 at halftime.
A Piles' layup to start the third quarter moved the 'Cats within two, 26-24, but SJU answered with a 12-2 run to go up 38-26 midway through the quarter. Monaghan scored the final seven points of the run.
Davidson cut the deficit to six on a Welling jumper with 3:49 to go before the Hawks closed the quarter up 44-35.
The lead would grow to 12 at 52-40 with 6:34 in the fourth quarter, but five straight points later by Lyon made it 56-49 with 2:46 left. It was as close as the Wildcats got as Saint Joseph's ended the game on a 10-5 run.
For the 13th time, and third time in the past four contests, the Wildcats reached the 40-rebound mark with a game-high 44 and added 12 of those boards on offense. They also had a 30-22 scoring advantage in bench points and held the Hawks to 34.4 percent shooting.
Davidson wraps up its regular season with a trip to Richmond, Va., to face VCU Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m.
