Wrestling Falls to VMI, 32-10

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team fell to the Virginia Military Institute in SoCon action Friday night at Belk Arena, 32-10.
Opening the match in the 165-pound weight class, VMI (2-11, 1-5 SoCon) jumped out to a 7-0 advantage. Davidson (4-12, 0-5 SoCon) got on the board in their third bout of the night with 184-pounder Konner Pritchard. Pritchard earned his second consecutive victory, claiming an 8-1 decision over Chris Beck, and moves to 9-11 overall and 2-3 in conference bouts.
Wildcat heavyweight Will Cooley (7-11, 1-4) raced out to a quick 6-1 edge after the first period over Thomas Shea-Roop. The Branchburg, N.J., native picked up a late two-point nearfall count as time expired in the second frame and cruised to a 12-1 major.
Junior Dustin Runzo (7-9, 1-4) earned his first conference bout of the season, but not without putting in a mammoth effort. The 133-pounder took it to a second sudden victory frame and escaped with a takedown to claim the win, 5-3. It marks the second sudden victory win for him this season and his sixth victory by way of decision.
Davidson returns to the mats Sunday, Feb. 12 for the 2016-17 home finale when the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb visit Belk Arena. First bout is slated for 7 p.m.
