Abele Gives Wildcats Second A-10 Rookie of the Week

DAVIDSON, N.C. — NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the second week in a row a Davidson women's tennis player was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week as the league office honored freshman Alexandra Abele Tuesday.
She joins fellow classmate Samantha Armas, who earned the honor last week (Jan. 24). Abele becomes the sixth Wildcat to earn rookie of the week honors during Davidson's three years in the Atlantic 10.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Abele remained perfect on the season in singles and doubles by going a combined 4-0 in both categories vs. Gardner-Webb and George Washington this past week.
Playing at No. 4 singles, the freshman cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory vs. Gardner-Webb and then in her first-ever A-10 match, nailed down a 6-3, 6-1 decision vs GW. She teamed up with Ava Todd in both matches in doubles to secure 6-4 and 6-1 wins at No. 3, as Davidson won the doubles point in both matches.
The two wins each gave her 3-0 records in both singles and doubles so far this year.
Davidson plays its first road match with a first-time matchup at Tennessee next Friday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m.
