Nine ‘Cats Compete at Final Fall M. Tennis Event

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — In their final Fall event, the Davidson men's tennis team sent nine players to the Wake Forest Invitational over the weekend of Nov. 3-5 at the Demon Deacon's Tennis Complex
Davidson finished the Fall season by competing in five events before it opens its regular season in January.
In singles play over the weekend, David Hager won the B2 Singles draw on the consolation side. After falling in his opening match, the senior won a dominant 7-1 tie-breaker in the third set of his first consolation match against a Campbell opponent to score a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 match victory. Hager then scored a 7-5, 7-6(4) win over Diego Castano of Libety to reach the final, where he cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Paul Mendoza of James Madison.
Also taking part in the same draw was Thomas Mason, who picked up a 6-4, 6-2 consolation win against a Tennessee Tech player.
Matthew Rose finished fifth in the C1 Singles draw. He won his opening match Friday in a three-setter, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3), against Austin Allen of ECU, but lost in the quarterfinals 6-3, 6-3. The sophomore regrouped to nail down a 6-1, 6-1 win against his Charlotte opponent and earned fifth place after Gardner-Webb's Michael Perry withdrew due to injury.
In the B1 Singles draw, Axel Fries finished 11th overall. He scored his first win on the consolation side, a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision against Morgan Lohan of N.C. State. He ended the weekend with a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Oliver Palmer of UNCG.
Shamael Chaudhry and Artem Khrapko competed in the A1 and A2 Singles draws, respectively. Chaudhry earned a couple consolation wins, battling back to score a thrilling 6-7(7), 7-6(4), 6-3 win against a Liberty player and then finishing the weekend in 13th place with a 6-1, 7-6 decision against Ronny Georgi of East Carolina.
Khrapko also finished 13th overall with a couple straight set wins (6-2, 6-1 & 6-4, 6-3) against JMU's Damon Roberts and Yuval Soloman of host Wake Forest.
In the doubles draws, the duo of Jack Riazzi and Yash Parikh won the B1 Doubles title when they ran off wins of 6-2, 6-4 and 6-4 over the weekend against teams from Wofford, Mercer and Radford.
Douglas MacIntosh and Fries won the consolation final in the B3 Doubles draw after a pair of 6-4 wins against Charlotte and Liberty.
Rounding out the doubles teams for the Wildcats was Khrapko and Rose, who drew the No. 1 seed in the A2 Doubles draw and fell 6-3 against a team from N.C. State. The duo came back to pick up a 7-5 win vs. Wofford before falling in their final match to a pair from Kentucky, 6-1.
